The Minister of Interior, Lt. Gen. (rtd) Abdulrahman Dambazau, has stated the Ministry’s readiness to collaborate with Neem Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) for effective and efficient post-conflict and peace-building management in crisis-prone areas across the country.
Gen. Dambazau disclosed this when he received Dr. Fatima Akilu, the Executive Director of Neem Foundation, in his office in Abuja.
He said the meeting was very timely as the Ministry was already in the process of deploying security officers to crisis areas to restore and maintain peace, adding that the Ministry and its agencies were totally committed towards “winning the peace” as the Nigerian Army has already “won the war” against insurgency.
The Minister also said that the Foundation’s expertise would be relevant in providing post-traumatic therapy for women, children and the aged, as well as for soldiers that have been exposed to extreme violence.
Earlier, the Executive Director, Neem Foundation, Dr. Fatima Akilu, said the foundation was willing to work with the Ministry to create awareness on de-radicalization programme and provide psycho-social support for victims and survivors of insurgency.
She explained that the Foundation had established Shelters where women and children who have been exposed to extreme violence are taught how to re-integrate themselves into the society.
