The Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd) has unveiled the Harmonized Departure and Arrival Cards, introduced by the Federal Government for international passengers,to replace the multiple cards which had been in use before now.
While presenting the cards at the Kaduna International Airport, Gen. Dambazau said the cards would be used to keep track of international passengers and would provide the necessary information required by the various agencies – Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Customs Service, Port Health Services, NDLEA and others.
The Minister further stated that with the multiplicity of forms and their attendant cumbersomeness out of the way, the use of the new cards would enhance the ease of doing business in the country.
Gen. Dambazau described the measure as part of Federal Government policy on Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria, in line with international best practices.
He explained that travelers were required, for security reasons, to fill the Departure/Arrival cards which contain sections for their profile, addresses and other personal details in one harmonized form.
In a remark, the Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammad Babandede, said that non-Nigerians would be required to fill both the Departure and Arrival cards, while Nigerians would be expected to fill only the Departure cards.
He added that the filled cards would be scanned and stored in a data bank to be shared with relevant stakeholders, and in that regard, the identity and travel records of passengers would be secured, and assessed as may be required.
