FG LAUDS NNDC ON PLAN TO REVIVE TEXTILE INDUSTRY

The Minister of Interior, Lt Gen Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), has commended the efforts of the New Nigeria Development Company (NNDC) in reviving the textile industry in Nigeria through the rehabilitation of the Kaduna Textile Limited (KTL).
The Minister, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Mr Bassey Okon Akpanyung, gave the commendation when he received the Management of the NNDC, led by the Chairman of the Board, Alhaji Bashir Mohammed Dalhatu, on a visit to seek the patronage of the Ministry for official uniforms of the Services under the Ministry to be produced by KTL in partnership with Sur International Investment Company Ltd, a Turkish company.
While lauding the ingenuity of NNDC on its plans to rehabilitate Nigeria’s textile industry and set up ancillary companies to service it, the Minister stated that NNDC’s vision dovetailed with the vision of this administration to diversify the economy, create employment and attract foreign direct investment.
He described the proposal as a right choice and possessing of elements that the Ministry could fine-tune for mutual benefits.
Earlier, in an opening remark, Alhaji Bashir Mohammed Dalhatu, a former Minister of Interior, who is the Chairman of the Board of NNDC, said they came to seek collaboration between the Ministry, the Services under the Ministry, and Kaduna Textile Limited (KTL).
He said that KTL, in partnership with Sur International Investment Company Ltd, proposed to set up a Garment Factory in Kaduna to produce, among other things, assorted uniforms.
Alhaji Bashir Mohammed Dalhatu disclosed that NNDC would, as part of effort to revive the textile industry in the North, establish a commodity marketing company to guarantee a steady supply of raw materials and maintain price stability; and also establish Industrial Farms to absorb by-products and process new products from them.
