FG REPOSITIONS FEDERAL FIRE SERVICE
Minister of Interior, Lt Gen Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau (rtd)
The Federal Government has approved the purchase of modern fire-fighting equipment for the Federal Fire Service (FFF).
This was disclosed by the Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau (rtd), while briefing newsmen at the end of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting in Abuja.
Gen. Dambazau stated that Government’s last purchase of equipment for the Federal Fire Service was more than 20 years before, and noted that those equipment were outdated to be used in combating fire at this time.
He said the Government took these factors into consideration and therefore felt that empowering the FFS in terms of the acquisition of modern fire-fighting equipmentwould go a long way in harnessing the full potential of the Service.
The Minister harped on the need for full implementation of the Building Code so as to reduce to the barest minimum the incidences relating to fire outbreak across the nation.
In that regard, he said a stakeholders’ meeting to involve relevant ministries like Works, Agriculture, Environment, Housing and all other professional bodies involved in building and other ancillary services to discuss and map out an effective roadmap for the sector would soon be convened.
Gen. Dambazau said the capacity of the personnel would be enhanced through training and interaction between the Federal and State Fire Services.
He assured that the Ministry of Interior would strengthen collaboration with state governments so as to effectively stem the tide of fire outbreaks across the nation.
