SOME NIGERIANS PROMOTING IRREGULAR MIGRATION - DAMBAZAU

The Minister of Interior, Lt Gen. (rtd) Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau, says irregular migration cannot thrive in a country without the connivance of the citizens, especially local businessmen.

Gen. Dambazau, who stated this when he received the House Committee on Interior on oversight visit to the Ministry, urged the citizens to desist from such act, as promoting irregular migration would lead to the destruction of cultural heritage and livelihood of the people.

The Minister noted that government has employed the implementation of the recently launched Immigration Regulations to check the irregular immigration, and urged local businessmen to stop the act of bringing in migrants illegally.

He commended the Honourable members on their oversight function, which he said serve to keep Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on their toes and ginger them to improve on their service delivery.

The Minister gave the assurance that the Ministry would strive to make good use of its budget allocation, meet objectives, maintain maximum standard, as well as overshoot plans for 2017.

He, however, called for an increase in the Ministry’s overhead allocation to enable the Ministry effectively carry out its mandate and other statutory responsibilities.

Earlier, the Chairman, House Committee on Interior, Jagaba Adams Jagaba, said the Committee was in the Ministry to ascertain the level of execution of projects, as it concerns the implementation of the 2016 budget.

While commending the Ministry on the achievements recorded in the implementation of its 2016 budget, he hoped the Ministry would always justify its budgetary allocation through optimal implementation.
