Gen Dambazau said the idea of holding the Festival in the state was informed by Federal Government’s plan of collaborating with states for greater service delivery to the nation, noting that such festivals are also where sporting talents are harnessed for national development.
The Minister emphasized that the Interior Sports Festival was conceptualized to serve as an avenue of bringing together the five services under the Ministry in a harmonizing banner of unity and kinship for greater delivery of their mandated services, particularly following the merger of the defunct Ministry of Police Affairs with Ministry of Interior.
He also solicited more collaboration with Kaduna State in the areas of prison decongestion and resolving the farmers and herdsmen conflicts, as well as tackling cattle rustling and armed banditry.
In response, the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-rufai, appreciated the choice of Kaduna State as the venue for the Interior Sports Festival, assuring that he would set up a committee to work out the details of the involvement of the state.
He noted that the prison in Kaduna is located in the heart of the city with their attendant hazards, and calledfor the relocation of prisons away from urban areas in view of security threats.
While pledging his support to the various paramilitary agencies in the state, the Governor commended their performance and conduct, noting that the state enjoys a lot of cooperation from them.
