PEACE IS INDISPENSABLE FOR SUSTAINABLE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT OF NIGERIA PERMANENT SECRETARY
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore has reiterated the need for peace to reign in order to pave way for sustainable growth and development of our dear country.
Dr. Belgore, who was a special guest of honour said this while delivering closing remarks at the Leadership Course In Preventive Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution organized by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Abuja.
"...peace is Indispensable and it is known to be a vital ingredient of sustainable growth and development of any nation. As an indivisible entity bound together by common destiny, Nigeria needs peace to realise its endowed human and material potentials capable of catapulting Nigeria to greatness," - Belgore emphasised.
He commended the NOA for organising the training, adding that the training was apt at the time Nigeria is faced with some security challenges. He urged the participants to apply knowledge and skills learned in the course of the training towards preventing conflicts that constitute setback to development.
His words: "Let me sincerely congratulate all of you having been privileged to acquire this elite training. This certification as an alternative dispute resolution expert and certified mediator will put your patriotism and love for your country to test depending on how you apply knowledge and expertise obtained in the course of this prestigious training to prevent degenerating of conflicts among and between individuals, communities, ethnic entities and interest groups among others".
Dr Belgore used the occasion to praise President Muhammadu Buhari for improved funding of security agencies which he said has yielded positive results in confronting security challenges across Nigeria.
"May I also use this auspicious occasion to commend Mr. President for his supports for the Ministry of Interior towards realization of its roles to foster and complement internal peace and security of Nigeria especially through paramilitary agencies such NSCDC and the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS). The NSCDC on the one hand primarily ensures protection of our national assets while NIS on the other hand maintains border control, border administration and border management," said Belgore.
He added that the NSCDC has been engaging in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in different communities over the years which he described as vital intervention towards preventing conflicts.
The highlight of the event witnessed presentation of certificates to the participants which was performed by the Permanent Secretary.
