FG Donates 850 Fibre Mattresses to Ondo Correctional Facilities

The Honourable Minister of Interior, Hon. Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has donated over 850 customised fibre mattresses to inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Ondo State as part of the Federal Government’s ongoing correctional reform efforts.

The donation was officially flagged off at the Medium Security Custodial Centre, Akure, as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at improving living conditions across custodial facilities in alignment with President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Represented at the event by Mr. Babatunde Ogundare, the Minister stated that Ondo State was selected as the pilot location for the distribution. He noted that the initiative reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to humane custody, inmate welfare, and the broader goal of rehabilitation and reintegration.

The Ondo State Controller of Corrections, Mr. Charles Oyewole, expressed appreciation to the Honourable Minister for his continued support to the Service. He also acknowledged recent interventions by the Minister, including the payment of fines that facilitated the release of some inmates, describing the gesture as impactful and timely.

The symbolic presentation of the mattresses underscores the Federal Government’s resolve to strengthen correctional administration, uphold the dignity of inmates, and advance reforms within custodial centres nationwide.
